December 2015

- The book "Who plans to study? - Higher education access and course choice" was published, edited by Branislava Baranović and published by the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb. The book is based on the findings of the research project "Social identities, higher education access and course choice" and describes the empirical findings and recommendations for education policy aimed at reducing social inequalities in education.


- The round table "The social dimension of higher education in Croatia - challenges and perspectives" was held on Wednesday, 2 December 2015.

The round table was organized by the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb in collaboration with the Office for Gender Equality and the Section for Sociology of Education of the Croatian Sociological Association. The results of research project "Social identities, higher education access and course choice" were presented at the Table.

The goal of the round table was to discuss the results of research in order to contribute to equality of educational opportunities in higher education. The round table was attended by experts and representatives of relevant institutions in higher education.




October 2015

- The third project workshop was held in School for Food Technology in Zagreb. Among the participants were the school principal, teachers and expert associates working in three-year and four-year vocational programmes of the school.

 


- The second project workshop was held in Gymnasium Velika Gorica. Among the participants were the school principal, teachers and expert associates of the school.

 



September 2015

- The project team held the first workshop on the theme “How can school help pupils in their decisions about further education and study choice?”.

The workshop was held in School for Machine Technics “Fran Bošnjaković” in Zagreb. School principal, teachers and expert associates of the School for Machine Technics “Fran Bošnjaković” and School of Electrical Engineering Zagreb (four-year vocational programmes) participated in the workshop.

June 2015

May 2015

Project team member, Iva Košutić, successfully defended her PhD thesis "Cultural Capital and Social Position of the Family as Factors of Educational Inequalities" on the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb.





April 2015

Project team member Olgica Klepač participated at the conference 22nd Days of Ramiro and Zoran Bujas, held April 17th 2015 in Zagreb.

The presentation The relationship of emotional attachment with the local community and related constructs with educational expectations was based on the project Social identities, higher education access and course choice data.


March 2015

Project team member Olgica Klepač participated at the 5th National Congress of Croatian Sociology Association "Crisis of normality - normality of the crisis", held March 20 2015 in Zagreb.

The presentation The residential origin and higher education choices was based on the project Social identities, higher education access and course choice data.


November 2014

Project team member, Dr. Karin Doolan, gave an interview based on preliminary results of the project Social identities, higher education access and course choice.

October 2014

Project team member Olgica Klepač participated at the conference Days of Educational Sciences, held October 16th 2014 in Zagreb.

The presentation Processes of choice in higher education: qualitative analysis of the interviews of high school graduates from Slavonia, school year 2013/2014 was based on the project Social identities, higher education access and course choice data.





April 2014

During the spring 2014 the empirical research was carried out, including questionnaire survey and semi-structured interviews.

The questionnaire survey was conducted on a nationally representative graduate-student sample, regarding the school type, gender and region of the Country. The survey was conducted in 98 public high schools in the Republic of Croatia. The final sample included 2106 high school graduate students (from vocational schools and gymnasiums).

Also, the semi-structured interviews were conducted with 24 graduate students from all types of public high schools and with 44 university students from different types of institutions and study fields.

Information about public presentations of the project

Three public presentations of the project Social identities, higher education access and course choice were held.

The first presentation of the project was held on February 20, 2013. at 12 o'clock, at the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb, organised by the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb.

The second presentation of the project was held on February 20, 2013. at 5 p.m., at The society of university teachers, scholars and other scientists in Zagreb, organised by The Croatian Sociological Association.

The third presentation of the project was held on April 3, 2013. at 12 o'clock, at the Faculty of philosophy, University of Rijeka, organised by Universitas, the association for the development of higher education.
