Nikola Petrović, PhD held the lecture titled “Ideology, historical grievances and positions on European integration“, as part of the Jean Monnet Visiting Lecture Series organized by the Chair of General History of Law and State of the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb. The lecture dealt with the development of pro-European and Eurosceptic attitudes throughout the history of European integration.

The Croatian Sociological Association held a public forum on “The contexts of Croatian accession into the Eurozone“. The speakers were Marina Tkalec, PhD (Institute of Economics, Zagreb) and Associate Professor Višeslav Raos, PhD (Faculty of Political Science, University of Zagreb).

After the introductory presentations, a discussion was held on the Croatian accession into the Eurozone, which was moderated by Nikola Petrović, PhD.

Filip Fila, MA commented for Magazin Jutarnjeg lista on the developments within the Visegrád Group. The paper addresses the question of how these developmental trends are influencing the meaning of the Visegrád Group as a symbol of 'resistance to Bruxelles', and how thy affect the newly formed gap between the Hungarian and Polish authorities.

Nikola Petrović, PhD and Stevo Đurašković, PhD (Faculty of Political Science of the University of Zagreb) were guests in the radio talk-show “Okrugli stol ponedjeljkom“ on The Croatian Radio Third Programme. The guests discussed European integration and disintegration processes.

Nikola Petrović, PhD participated in the sociological forum series Public Sociology Zadar. He was discussing the influence of geopolitical changes on the trends in Croatian economy, between the European periphery and semi-periphery. In that context, he reflected on the consequences that the war in Ukraine could have on the positioning of Croatian economy.

Filip Fila held a presentation titled “The Visegrad group - a united front against a common European narrative?” on December 4th 2020 at the international online conference “7th Young Scholars Forum” organized by IDM (Institut für den Donauraum und Mitteleuropa).

In the presentation Filip (primarily) challenged the notion introduced in the title by pointing out the differences in how populisms of the ruling parties of the group reflect on attitudes towards the EU. He also pointed out differences in relevant characteristics and public opinion of the member states’ citizens.

The IDEU project has been presented as a panel at Croatian Political Science Talks 2020 on October 7th 2020. Four presentations in total summarized some of the initial project results and valuable feedback was provided in return. The presenters and their topics were as follows:

A text by Nikola Petrović “COVID-19 pandemic and the future of the European Union” has been published in Croatian Sociological Association’s series of texts: “Sociology in isolation”. It deals with the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis on integration and disintegration processes in the EU and compares it with recent European integration crises.

The IDEU project has a strong emphasis on comparative-historical approach and members of the research team presented it at the Kliofest – a history festival. The themes of the comparison of the use of the politics of history in different parts of the EU (Nikola Petrović) and the comparison of socialist Yugoslavia and the European Union through comparing the break-up of Yugoslavia and disintegration processes in the EU (Ivan Obadić) and through comparing the building of supranational identities in both political organisations (Stevo Đurašković) were presented.
