Vacancy for Research Assistant in the area of Social Sciences, field of Psychology – CIRO – 2 positions

Based on Articles 39 and 40 of the Act on Higher Education and Scientific Activity (OG 119/22), and the Decision of the Scientific Council of the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb, the Institute announces

VACANCY

For the selection of associate:

1. in the position of Assistant in the scientific area of Social Sciences, field of Psychology, to work in the Centre for Educational Research and Development on the Croatian Science Foundation project “Learning Amidst Disinformation and Social Conflict: Young People and Teachers Co-Constructing Curriculum through Transnational Dialogue (4Cs)” (DOK-2025-02-4527) under the Croatian Science Foundation call “Young Researchers’ Career Development Project – Training New Doctoral Students“ (DOK-2025-02), on a fixed term of five (5) years and in full-time engagement – 1 position

2. in the position of Assistant in the scientific area of Social Sciences, field of Psychology, to work in the Centre for Educational Research and Development on the Horizon Europe project “VET participation, retention, and educational policies in the wake of COVID 19 - A cross-country exploration (VETprep)” (DOK-2025-02-1081) under the Croatian Science Foundation call “Young Researchers’ Career Development Project – Training New Doctoral Students“ (DOK-2025-02), on a fixed term of five (5) years and in full-time engagement – 1 position

Candidates need to meet the conditions stipulated by the Act on Higher Education and Scientific Activity (OG 119/2022).

Compulsory conditions:

  • all candidates need to meet the general conditions stipulated by the Act on Higher Education and Scientific Activity (OG 119/2022),
  • completed university graduate study or university integrated study in the area of Social Sciences, field of Psychology,
  • candidates need to meet the criteria for enrollment in the doctoral study of Psychology,
  • candidate already having a PhD degree cannot apply to the vacancy.

Priority in employment for the position no. 1 shall be given to candidates meeting additional criteria:

  • interest for research into learning and teaching of sensitive social topics and social identities, educational experiences and attitudes of youth,
  • active participation in scientific research work, published papers, presentations at scientific conferences, etc.,
  • acknowledgements and/or awards for excellence,
  • high motivation and strong interest for scientific work,
  • excellent knowledge of English.

Priority in employment for the position no. 2 shall be given to candidates meeting additional criteria:

  • interest for research in the domain of educational and career aspirations and transitions,
  • competences and interest for conducting and analysing longitudinal questionnaire surveys,
  • active participation in scientific research work, published papers, presentations at scientific conferences, etc.,
  • acknowledgements and/or awards for excellence,
  • high motivation and strong interest for scientific work,
  • excellent knowledge of English.

Along with the application, candidates shall enclose:

  • a copy of diploma on completed university graduate study or university integrated study in the field of Psychology,
  • grade transcript for all levels of study with the GPA,
  • letter of motivation describing interest for the respective position,
  • CV with description of track record,
  • list of authored publications and papers (including final thesis), with links if they are available in open access,
  • decision on acknowledgement of foreign educational qualification for candidates who acquired their qualification abroad,
  • proof of knowledge of Croatian, B2 level (for foreign applicants).

In the application, candidates are obliged to state if they are applying for the position no. 1, position no. 2, or both positions.

Candidates meeting the formal criteria of the public vacancy may be invited to a testing of knowledge, interests and motivation, and an interview. Candidates invoking their right of priority in access to employment need to submit all the prescribed documentation according to the special law. Candidates invoking their right of priority in access to employment according to provisions of Article 102 of the Act on Croatian Homeland War Veterans and Members of Their Families (OG 121/17, 98/19, 84/21, 156/23), and among whom there are no impediments in terms of Article 104 of the Act, need to submit all the necessary documentation prescribed by Article 103 of the Act, to be able to exercise that priority. Candidates invoking their right of priority in access to employment according to provisions of Article 48 of the Act on Civilian Victims of the Homeland War (OG 84/21), and among whom there are no impediments in terms of Article 50 of the Act, need to submit all the necessary documentation prescribed by Article 49 of that Act, to be able to exercise that priority. Candidates invoking their right of priority in access to employment according to provisions of Article 48f of the Act on the Rights of Members of Armed Forces and Civilians Disabled in War need to provide proof of meeting the required criteria, along with proof of the status in question. 
Candidates invoking their right of priority in access to employment according to provisions of Article 9 of the Act on Professional Rehabilitation and Employment of Persons with Disabilities (OG 157/13, 152/14, 39/18, 32/20), and among whom there are no impediments in terms of Article 9 Paragraph 18 of that Act, need to submit proof of disability to be able to exercise that priority.

Assistant is employed in line with the corresponding coefficient of job complexity for the Assistant position, in accordance with the Regulation on Job Titles, Placement Conditions and Payment Coefficients in Public Services. Employment includes a probationary period of 6 months.

Based on Article 13 of the Gender Equality Act, candidates of both genders can apply to the vacancy.
