A chapter by Lana Peternel “Complexity of inner belonging: notions of belonging and alienation among adolescents with a migrant background in Croatia“ was published in the book “Changing youth values in Southeast Europe: beyond ethnicity“ by Routledge, London.

In this chapter the author explores ethnic identities of adolescents with a migrant background in Croatia through examining their sense of inner belonging and alienation within the community and as a part of the broader socio-cultural and political contex. The analysis of qualitative data shows that the sense of belongingness based on diverse ethnic indicators is a contested site filled with subjective interpretations of imposed social and political circumstances.
