The Institute for Social Research in Zagreb and the publishing house Plejada organized on 7th March, 2012 a promotion of the book by dr. sc. Mirjana Adamović „Žene i društvena moć“ („Women and Social Power“). The promotion was held in the Bogdan Ogrizović Library, Preradovićeva 5.
The book was presented by: Ilija Ranić, editor of the publishing house Plejada, mr. sc. Helena Štimac Radin, head of The Office for Gender Equality of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, prof. dr. sc. Mladen Labus, leader of the scientific ISRZ team for culture and gender studies, prof. dr. sc. Rade Kalanj and prof. dr. sc. Silva Mežnarić, the reviewers and the author of the book.
Dr. sc. Mirjana Adamović was hired on the project „Identity of the Others in the Republic of Croatia“.
In the first part of the book the author analyses different sociological and gender concepts of social power that refer to the reasons of non-presence of women in the public sphere and to the interpretations of women’s power and identity of women in contemporary societies.
In the second part of the book, the results of the empirical research are revealed and they refer to the sociological attributes of the chair positions of women in public, private and civil sector in the Republic of Croatia. The author brings a series of conclusions based on the managing experiences of the respondents that evaluate their professional (career) and family life. The book ends with recommendations for shaping the cultural and gender policies.
