Project description

The project’s aim is to achieve interdisciplinary research of the culture of Others in regard to the dominant culture, and symbolic patterns attributed to their different categories – primarily gender categories. This project strives to contribute to the further development of cultural/gender policies that include encouraging anti-discriminatory practice which is why the research is conducted regarding various aspects of identity, culture, coexistence, multiculturalism and conflict resolution. Some of the results of this interdisciplinary project will be published in the scientific publication “Identity and Culture” involving works by Prof. Mladen Labus, PhD, Prof. Lino Veljak, PhD, Mirjana Adamović, PhD and Ana Maskalan, PhD.

The book is thematically concerned with sociological and onto-anthropological perspective of changes in types of cultural identities within the process of globalization, modernism and postmodernism while monitoring the reconceptualization and redefinition of the cultural identity from the conceptual discourse in the discourse of cultural praxis. Also, from the perspective of the philosophy of culture the process of transforming of collective identities into metaphysical identities is reconstructed and some aspects of identity politics, especially those that are by their nature discriminatory are examined.

Also in the publication are discussed the concepts of specific cultures, primarily the culture of fear and the culture of peace, as political concepts that in the past few decades appear as part of attempts at explaining the values of modern societies. The culture of fear is analysed in the context of philosophical and sociological inquiry into fear as potentially defining characteristic of modern societies. The concept of peace is seen as a political and sociological notion and is brought in connection with gender roles and stereotypes.

Project benefits: Dissemination of scientific results of the fundamental research.
