Senior Assistant Anamaria Klasić held a research seminar titled “Housing quality and public spaces in Zagreb in the context of green transition“ at the Faculty of Political Science on 23 April 2026.

Based on results of two research projects, the seminar tackled key aspects of housing quality in Zagreb that need to be improved with regard to the process of green transition. The socialist and post-socialist housing estates were compared, with a focus on housing satisfaction at the level of building and the level of estate, and with regard to accessibility of green spaces. Challenges of maintenance and renovation of the older housing stock were particularly emphasized, as well as a lack of infrastructure in the newer estates. Possibilities and obstacles in improving the housing quality through green and energy transition were also discussed. That included observations on energy renovation of buildings, and renewal and greening of public spaces by introducing sustainable urban solutions. The role of policies and financing were also tackled, along with the importance of civic participation and systematic urban planning for the creation of sustainable cities of the future.

The seminar is a result of the research work conducted within the projects “Quality of living in the Housing Estates of the socialist and post-socialist era: a comparative analysis between Slovenia and Croatia“ (HESC, CSF, 2020-2023) and “Effects of the Europeanization Process in Selected Urban-Rural Areas of Croatia“ (HREUURBRUR,  ISRZ Research Programme – Ministry of Science, Education and Youth via NextGenerationEU Fund, European Commission, 2024-2027). The Principal Investigator of both projects is Anđelina Svirčić Gotovac, PhD.
