Our researchers Nikola Petrović, Filip Fila and Josip Bilić presented their work at the Croatian Political Science Talks 2025, held at the Faculty of Political Science of Zagreb University on 6-7 November. The topic of this year's conference was “Social Discontent and Political Change”, which called upon researchers from political science and beyond to tackle pressing matters of present-day politics.
Nikola Petrović presented a paper titled “Historical grievances and geopolitical cleavage and their impact on authoritarian regimes: A comparison of Fidesz and SNS”. In the paper he looks at the Fidesz and SNS regimes and argues for a comparison of the two regimes based on the social groups and milieus from which they developed and draw their support, and highlights that geopolitical cleavages could have a significant impact on the survival of these regimes.
Filip Fila i Josip Bilić shared the findings of a paper titled “The changing (and contrasting) geopolitical orientations of Croatian presidents” and co-authored with Nikola Petrović. The paper strives to describe and explain the geopolitical orientations of the presidents of Croatia, paying attention to the dynamics with the prime minister, as well as the milieu from which the actors came.
