Jelena Zlatar Gamberožić, Sara Ursić, Jana Vukić and Anđelina Svirčić Gotovac participated at the 10th Anatomy of Islands conference. This year's topic was dedicated to 'Climate changes and environmental futures of islands' (26. - 28. 9., Lastovo). The title of their online presentation was “Traditional island activities and cultural heritage as a basis of island identity and a cultural-tourist potential: Examples of the islands of Brač and Rab“.

The presented qualitative research on the islands of Brač and Rab pointed to the necessity of increasing the visibility of islands' cultural heritage and traditional activities. It was ascertained that these places have rich cultural heritage, yet that the tourist development is not more significantly focused on it. The same goes for traditional island activities, especially agriculture, which is mainly reduced to individual and family endeavours. The local community, experts and other interested actors therefore point out that for the future development of island tourism it is crucial to also include their cultural-historical dimension, as well as local and traditional knowledge and activities. Such a more sustainable approach to these activities can be incorporated in the tourist offer of future municipal and state plans and strategies.
