Ivan Tranfić, PhD was awarded the Best Article Prize for 2025 by the journal “East European Politics” (Q1) for the paper “From parish to parliament: resources and alliances of anti-gender movements in Southeast Europe”.

The paper explores the emergence of anti-gender mobilisation in Southeast Europe with a comparative case study of Bulgaria, Croatia, and Serbia. The key factors contributing to the varying levels of mobilisation are identified as religious resource mobilisation and right-wing alliance dynamics. Based on semi-structured interviews with leaders of anti-gender organisations and actors of the radical right, the article shows that investigations of countermovements should be expanded by analyses disaggregating the seemingly monolithic field of (far-)right politics.

Every year, the journal Editors award the Best Article Prize to an article carefully selected from previous year’s Volume. According to the Editors, the award-winning articles “present cutting-edge research and are written in an exceptionally lucid and engaging style”. The prize-winning articles are made free to access for a year, and receive additional promotion on social media and a cash prize of £250.

Sincere congratulations to our Ivan!
