Published: 22.10.2026.

Josip Šabić, Ivana Pikić Jugović, Iris Marušić, and Dora Petrović participated in the international conference “Psychology and Music – Interdisciplinary Encounters” (PAM-IE), held last week in Ljubljana.
Two symposia featured research findings from the MUSICPLAN project—led by Josip Šabić, PhD at the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb (IDIZ)—and the MUSICWELL project, led by Ana Butković, PhD from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb.
The first symposium focused on the well-being of music school students. Ivana Pikić Jugović presented research on the moderating role of self-compassion in the relation between school–life balance and life satisfaction among music school students. Josip Šabić shared findings on the role of cultural capital and the fulfillment of basic psychological needs in explaining students' aspirations to continue their music education.
The second symposium centered on music school teachers and adults engaged in music, featuring two papers stemming from the MUSICPLAN project. Iris Marušić presented findings on the mediating role of self-efficacy in the relationship between the motivation to choose a teaching career and the work engagement of music teachers. Dora Petrović presented research on the mediating role of work engagement in the relationship between the dual professional identity of music teachers and their intention to remain in the teaching profession.
