International conference “Why the World Needs Anthropologists - The Power of Isolation“ was held

The 11th international conference “Why the World Needs Anthropologists - The Power of Isolation“ was held in Supetar on the island of Brač from 27th to 29th October 2023. The conference was organized by the Applied Anthropology Network - European Association of Social Anthropology (EASA) and partners. The conference was attended by 248 anthropologists from Croatia and Slovenia, and various countries of Europe and the world who participated in lectures and workshops discussing what isolation means in the context of longstanding and mutually interconnected crises.

The participants listened to the lectures in the Supetar cinema for two days, while 7 workshops were organized on various locations on the island of Brač. Isolation as a construct in redefining the political, social and digital reality was discussed by Dace Dzenovska (University of Oxford), Lana Bobić (VoxFeminae), Karmen Šterk (University of Ljubljana), Rafram Chaddad (https://www.rafram.com/), Tomislav Pletenac (University of Zagreb), Heli Rantavuo (Spotify, eBay, Microsoft, OP Financial Group), Anders Kristian Munk (University of Kopenhagen) and students of anthropology from Europe and Croatia.
