Field research on the island of Hvar within the CSF project ISOLATION

Published: 15.04.2024.

As part of the CSF project “Isolated People and Communities in Slovenia and Croatia – ISOLATION” Lana Peternel and Ana Perinić Lewis are carrying out ethnographic field research on the Island of Hvar from 8th till 16th April 2024. The field research includes interviews with inhabitants of the following depopulated places: Veliko and Malo Grablje, Selca near Stari Grad, Gdinj, Bogomolje, Poljica, Zastražišće, the city of Hvar and municipalities of Jelsa and Sućuraj.

Nowaday life on the touristically developed Island of Hvar is far from demographic sustainability and economic development, especially in smaller island settlements, as was the case in the second half of the 20th century, when islands were less connected infrastructurally, but were experiencing a socio-demographic momentum and greater balancing of various economic activities.
