Published: 23.03.2026.

At the Discussion on post-earthquake renewal six years after the Zagreb and Petrinja earthquake - Perceptions of residents of Donji and Gornji Grad, Markuševec and Čučerje, and Petrinja and Glina, the researchers of the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb - Anđelina Svirčić Gotovac and Jelena Zlatar Gamberožić, and Sara Ursić, external associate from the Institute of Social Sciences “Ivo Pilar“, in collaboration with the colleagues from the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research - Mirna Tkalčić Simetić and Valentina Gulin Zrnić – presented results of their longstanding research conducted in affected cities and settlements. Since 2020 they have interviewed residents of damaged apartments/houses, and explored the process of renovation in situ, as well as the circumstances during the renovation, and the challenges and difficulties that the residents were going through and still do.
The Discussion was organised on 20 March 2026, to mark the 6th anniversary of the earthquake (22 March), presenting the collaboration in the domains of Urban Sociology and Urban Anthropology, and mutual efforts on two projects: Effects of the Europeanization Process in Selected Urban-Rural Areas of Croatia (HREUURBRUR) and What kind of cities do we want? Contemporary transformations of urban visions, practices and ethics (URBAN) – the FUTURUS Platform.
Both projects are financed by the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth, supported by the European Union (NextGenerationEU) during the period of 4 years (2024-2027).
More about the HREUURBRUR project can be found here, and about the URBAN project here.
