Published: 13.10.2026.

Kruno Kardov, PhD, Goran Koletić, PhD and Magda Profaca, doctoral researcher and team member of the Institute’s RESETH project, are the authors of the paper “Determinants of non-participation in local public culture: evidence from Croatia”.

The paper was published in the journal “Cultural Trends”, which is indexed in the Scopus database in Q1 for Communication, Cultural Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts, and also in Q1 in the WoSCC for Cultural Studies in AHCI edition and Cultural Studies in SSCI edition.

The study examines the factors influencing non-participation in local public culture based on the data collected during the monitoring and evaluation of the Rijeka 2020 European Capital of Culture project. The results indicated that non-participation in all observed fields of local public culture was associated with factors commonly linked to national highbrow culture. Although certain differences among fields were identified, education, age, and gender emerged as nearly universal predictors of non-participation, pointing to broader patterns of social inequality.
