Assistant Vlaho Kavain participated from June 11 until June 13 in the “Research on Citizenship Education Season School 2026: On Field Research in Citizenship Education“, organised by the European Educational Research Association (EERA). The Season School 2026 was hosted by the University of Porto in Portugal.
The Season School was dedicated to the research of citizenship education – from large international research such as ICCS, over innovative methodological approaches, including participatory action research, to the application of video games as tools for the teaching and exploring of citizenship education.
It gathered scientists and professionals from the domain of social sciences and humanities exploring various aspects of citizenship education by applying innovative methodological approaches. The programme encompassed the lectures of professionals, discussions of all participants and work in small groups.
Through lectures, discussions and group work, assistant Kavain exchanged knowledge and existing experience in the application of innovative qualitative research approaches, particularly participatory action research in the context of learning and teaching about controversial and sensitive social issues. He related the topic of the season school with the results of the ISRZ project “Learning Amidst Disinformation and Social Conflict: Young People and Teachers Co-Constructing Curriculum through Transnational Dialogue”, whose methodological and thematic focus is directly connected to the key topics of this year’s programme.
Participation in the season school was a valuable opportunity for the international exchange of knowledge, experience and ideas, and development of new professional and research collaborations.
