Basic activity: Scientific research in the field of sociology and related disciplines.
Founding: April 21st 1964 by the University of Zagreb as the first social scientific research institution in Croatia.
People: There are 38 employees at the Institute among which 30 are researchers.
Fields of research:    Social structure and stratification, culture, space, education, science and technology, religion, youth, family, social pathology, demography, public administration, public opinion, global social system, industry, tourism, defence, and bibliographycal research.

Other Activities: The research staff of the Institute participates in undergraduate and post graduate education at the Croatian Universities.
The Institute organizes post graduate studies in association with Croatian Universities.
