 Boris Jokić, Ph.D.

Institute for Social Research - Zagreb


Boris Jokić was born in Zagreb in 1976. He graduated psychology at the Department of Psychology, University of Zagreb, and gained MPhil and PhD at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Since 2002 he has worked at the Center for Educational Research and Development at the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb, currently at the position of scientific associate.
From 2002 onwards he led or worked as an associate on over 20 scientific projects in the field of education on topics of key competences in Croatian education, the quality of the state Matura exams, the private tutoring phenomenon, the transition from secondary to higher education and the development of habits and learning skills of Croatian pupils.
He works intensively on the continuous professional development of teachers in the organization of the Education and Teacher Training Agency and collaborates with the doctoral program of the Department of Psychology at the University of Zagreb.
Some of the international projects he conceived and led include: "A Comparative Qualitative Exploration of Private Tutoring Phenomenon and Eurasia (Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Estonia, Georgia, Mongolia)" and "Exploring the Key Competences "Learning to Learn" and "Entrepreneurship" and Elementary Education Systems of the Western Balkans". National projects he conceived and led include: "Becoming a Student in Croatia - Analysis of the Study Programs of Higher Education Institutions in the Republic of Croatia on the Basis of the State Matura exam"; "On Learning - Various Aspects of Learning in Croatian Elementary and Lower Secondary Education"; "Analysis of the Contents and the Results of the State Matura Exams in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology". He has worked as a research associate on the following large scale projects: "Evaluation of Teaching Programmes and Development of a Curriculum Model for Compulsory Education in Croatia", "Improvement and Equalisation of the Quality of Compulsory Education in Croatia" and "University of Cambridge Primary Review".
He has published fifteen research papers and several scientific books as author and editor. He was invited lecturer at seven and presented his work at more than forty international and domestic conferences. He is a member of the editorial board of the scientific journal Prospects and reviewer of several domestic and international journals.
He is a member of the National Council for Education of Republic of Croatia. He was a member of the National Operational Body for the Strategy of Education, Science and Technology and head of the Comprehensive Curricular Reform for the Early and Pre-school, Elementary and Secondary Education.



 Zrinka Ristić Dedić, Ph.D.

Institute for Social Research - Zagreb


Zrinka Ristić Dedić, born in 1974, works at the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb, Centre for Educational Research and Development. She received a Ph.D. in Psychology (school and educational psychology) at the Psychology Department, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, in 2010. In 2011 she was elected to academic status of scientific associate in interdisciplinary field of educational sciences. Since 2003 Zrinka participated as a researcher and project co-leader in more than 20 scientific and developmental projects in the field of education, on topics: learning to learn competence, State matura exams and admission to tertiary education, private tutoring phenomenon, inquiry learning. She published around 20 journal articles and book chapters. She is a lecturer at the course Educational Assessment: Research and Developments at Ph.D. Psychology (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences). She attended various professional development workshops and study visits in the field of education and methodology of educational research in Hungary (2004), Holland (2005), Turkey (2005), Azerbaijan (2006), Sweden (2011), Belgium (2014) and Ireland (2014). She was a member of thematic working group "Quality assurance in Education" for the Strategy of science, education and technology of the Republic of Croatia (2014) and a member of the expert team that led the process of Comprehensive Curricular Reform (2015 – 2016).
Within the project, Zrinka participates in theoretical conceptualisation of the research and development of its methodological aspect, while she also contributes to fieldwork and data analysis in all qualitative and quantitative phases of the project. Her particular interests within the project are directed to the exploration of pupils’ and parents’ perspectives and to the understanding of how pupils’ educational aspirations are shaped and changed by familial and wider context in which pupils live and act.



 Iva Košutić, Ph.D.

Institute for Social Research - Zagreb


Iva Košutić was born in 1979 in Split, Croatia. She graduated in sociology at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Since 2007 she has been employed at the Centre for Educational Research and Development of the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb, currently at the position of postdoctoral fellow. She received a Ph.D. in Sociology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, in 2015. Since 2007 Iva participated as a researcher in eight scientific and developmental projects in the field of education, on topics: enhancing the quality of compulsory education, self-evaluation of schools, quality, equity and equality in higher education, higher education/study choice. She published ten research articles and eight research studies, mainly in the field of sociology of education. She has presented on seven national and international scientific conferences. She received the Coimbra Group Hospitality Scheme Programme scholarship (2008.). She has been external associate of the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, on the course Introduction in Analytical Sociology. She was a member of the organisational committees of two domestic and one international congress in the field of sociology and education. She is a member of the Croatian Sociological Association and a secretary of the Croatian Educational Research Association.
Within this project, Iva will be involved in theoretical conceptualisation of the research, development of its methodological aspect; she will participate in both segments of the field work (qualitative and quantitative), conduct data analysis and be involved in the dissemination of the research results. Her particular interests within the project are directed to the exploration of the impact of family context on pupils' educational achievement and educational aspirations.



Iris Marušić, Ph.D.

Institute for Social Research - Zagreb


Iris Marušić was born in Zagreb in 1965. She graduated psychology at the University of Zagreb in 1989. From 1991 to 2001 she was employed as research assistant at the Department of Psychology, University of Zagreb, where she obtained her M.A. degree in 1995, and Ph.D. degree in 1999. Since 2001 she has been employed at the Centre for Educational Research and Development of the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb, currently at the position of senior scientific associate. Iris Marušić teaches undergraduate course Introduction to the Cross-Cultural Psychology and graduate course Cross-Cultural Research in Personality at the Department of Psychology, University of Zagreb. She has collaborated on numerous national research projects in the field of personality psychology and educational psychology, and participated in large international projects Personality Profiles of Cultures, Adolescent Personality Profiles of Cultures and International Teacher Leadership. She is currently active in international FIT-Choice research network related to comparative research on teacher motivation.
Dr. Marušić has published more than 30 research papers, several book chapters and research studies. She has presented on more than 30 national and international scientific conferences and served as a reviewer for domestic and international scientific journals. She was a member of thematic working groups "Teaching Profession" and "Quality assurance in Education" for the Strategy of science, education and technology of the Republic of Croatia (2014). She is a member of Croatian Psychological Society, European Association for Personality Psychology and European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI).
Dr. Iris Marušić will contribute to the further theoretical conceptualisation of the research, as well as to the sample definition. She will have a crucial role in the adjustment of the existing measures and the construction of new measures, especially those that are related to the constructs at the teacher level. She will participate in the field work, both qualitative and quantitative data analysis and the dissemination of the research results. She will also support the work of the Educational Aspirations Network.



 Jelena Matić Bojić, Ph.D.

Institute for Social Research - Zagreb


Jelena Matić was born in 1986 in Split, Croatia. She graduated with the BA, MA and PhD in psychology in 2008, 2011 and 2018, respectively, at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. As a University of Zagreb scholar, Jelena spent the summer semester of the academic year 2009/2010 at the Murdoch University, Perth, Australia. Since May 2012, Jelena has been working as a research assistant and since April 2018 as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Social Research – Zagreb. So far, she has worked on several scientific and developmental projects of the Institute’s Centre for Educational Research and Development and other institutions. Since the academic year 2014/2015, she has been external associate of the Department of Social Work, Faculty of Law in Zagreb, working on the Introduction in Psychology and Social Psychology courses. She was also lecturer at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences course entitled Psychology of Education: Motivational and Social Processes. During her studies, she gained three years of experience in work with (pre)school children. She was a member of the organisational committees of three domestic and one international congress in the field of education. So far, she has published six original scientific papers, one review paper, one professional paper and three book chapters in co-authorship and has actively participated at about fifteen domestic and international conferences,. She is a member of the Croatian Chamber of Psychology and the Croatian Educational Research Association.
Within this project, Jelena will be involved in the operationalisation of the constructs and the development of the instruments at all of the assessed levels, with special emphasis on the peer/class level. She will be active in assuring the access to schools and specific groups of participants, as well as in launching and coordination of the Educational Aspirations Network. She will conduct a portion of the fieldwork, analyse the data as well as disseminate the research findings.



 Josip Šabić, Ph.D.

Institute for Social Research - Zagreb


He was born in Slavonski Brod in 1983. He graduated (2008) and received a Ph.D. in Psychology (2018) at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. From 2008 to 2016, he worked in the National Centre for External Evaluation of Education on the development and construction of Croatian State Matura and other examinations. From 2016, Josip works in the Institute for Social Research as research assistant. His fields of interest are psychology of education and psychometrics. Josip took part in different research projects in the field of psychology and education, such as "Analysis of the Contents and the Results of the High School Final Exams – Biology, Physics and Chemistry 2009./10." (National Centre for External Evaluation of Education) and "Development, Standardization and Psychometric Validation of Cognitive Abilities Tests" (Ministry for Science, Education and Sports). He also participated in large number of development projects in the field of test construction. He is an author of two scientific papers. He also co-authored one professional paper and three books. He has presented on more than 10 national and international scientific conferences. He won several stipends and "The Voya Kondic Memorial Prize" (2014). He is a member of The Croatian Chamber of Psychology.
In this project, Josip will participate in elaboration of quantitative research methodology. He will conduct a portion of the fieldwork, analyse the data as well as disseminate the research findings.



 Gordana Kuterovac Jagodić, Ph.D.

Department of Psychology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Zagreb


Gordana Kuterovac Jagodić, Ph.D. is a full professor at the Department of Psychology at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. At the Department of Psychology she teaches several courses on topic of developmental psychology on undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level, as well as on the postgraduate studies of clinical psychology. She obtained different professional and scientific training in the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. She was visiting fellow on several faculties at University of Zagreb. She was a supervisor in more than thirty graduation theses, four M.A. theses, and three doctoral dissertations. Gordana Kuterovac Jagodić is currently head of a Chair of Developmental Psychology. During her career she collaborated and was leader in numerous scientific projects. Gordana was a member and/or president of program and organizing committees of several scientific conferences and a leader of Summer schools of Psychology for students of Department of Psychology. She is a member of Croatian Association of Psychology, Croatian Chamber of Psychology, European Association for Developmental Psychology, European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. She co-edited four books and over fifty scientific and professional papers and presented her work at numerous domestic and international conferences. She received Marulić: Fiat Psychologia award for promotion of applied psychology from Croatian Psychological Society (2013) as well as State Award Ivan Filipović for promoting educational theory and practice.
In this project, Dr. Gordana Kuterovac Jagodić, due to her expertise in the field of developmental psychology and psychology of parenting, will primarily be dealing with the theoretical conceptualisation, the operationalisation of the constructs and the development of the instruments at the parent level. She will participate in the qualitative and the quantitative segment of the research, conduct data analysis and disseminate the findings that are developmental in nature.



 Inja Erceg, Ph.D.

Department of Psychology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Zagreb


She was born in Zagreb. In 2007 she graduated from University of Zagreb, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, with a degree in Psychology. After graduation, she worked for a year at the University Clinic for Psychological Medicine (Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb) in psychodiagnostics, worked with oncology patients and participated in research in the field of psycho-oncology and chronic pain. From May 2008 until June 2009 she worked at Consulting Centre Sirius on professional orientation, professional selection and current employees potentials assessment. At that time she also worked at the Centre for counselling, education and research Sirius as an assistant expert working on educational guidance, counselling and addiction prevention projects among adolescents. From June 2009 she works as a research assistant at the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. She has worked on a research project "Personality and parenting during a child's transition to adolescence" coordinated by prof. Gordana Keresteš, Ph.D. From 2013 to 2014 she has also assisted on the project "Factors of body dissatisfaction among girls and boys in adolescence" financed by the University of Zagreb and led by prof. Gordana Kuterovac Jagodić, Ph.D. The main areas of her current research interests are biological and sociocultural factors in the development and maintenance of body dissatisfaction in adolescence in girls and boys, such as age and pubertal timing, as well as parental, peer and media influences. She is also interested in age and gender differences in various body change strategies. She has actively participated in many national and international scientific conferences, is an author of the chapters in two edited books, is one of the editors of book of abstracts of the international conference and has published several scientific and professional papers. She completed a number of training and educational courses, as well as the second level in behavioural-cognitive therapies organised by Croatian Association for Behavioural-Cognitive Therapies. She is a member of the Croatian Chamber of Psychology, Croatian Psychological Association and Croatian Association for Behavioural-Cognitive Therapies.
She will be involved in the operationalisation of the constructs and the development of the instruments at the parent level. She will participate in both segments of the field work (qualitative and quantitative), conduct data analysis and be involved in the dissemination of the data concerning phenomena from the field of developmental psychology.
